NCKU Receives Waste Heat Furnace From Japan's JEP to Promote Waste Treatment
TAINAN, Taiwan --(Business Wire)--
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) received heat furnace, emulsifying
equipment and heat exchangers manufactured by Japanese Environmental
Preservation Co. Ltd (JEP) as gifts from the company in an effort to
study on hazardless waste treatment and recycling for environmental
protection in Taiwan.
Both NCKU and JEP also signed an agreement to jointly upgrade Taiwan's
bottom ash, heavy metal sludge and hazardous waste treatment technology,
thus inventing a complete solution for waste problems with the
commitment to create a low-carbon, zero-waste and safe environmental of
In the gift-giving ceremony held on January 15, the agreement was signed
by NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung and JEP Director Kowatari Shusaku.
The set of heat furnace, emulsifying equipment and heat exchanger given
to NCKU, valud in the market at two hundred million Japanese Yen, uses
the main technology of integrating emulsified diesel into hazardous
waste to produce harmless slag, where the technology has been used with
significant success in dealing with radioactive waste during the March
11 Japanese nuclear disaster.
According to President Hwung, the NCKU Sustainable Environment Research
Center (SERC) and Environment Resource Management Research Center
(ERMRC) were established by the university's Department of Environmental
Engineering Professor Dr. Juu-En Chang for environment protection
Since the establishment of these centers ten years ago, they have helped
solve laboratory waste problems at various universities in Taiwan as
well as industrial waste, thus accumulating many years of experience in
waste treatment in the process.
JEP Director Mr. Shusaku revealed his great honor of using his patented
inventions to collaborate with Taiwan's prestigious universities. The
heat furnace he invented integrated emulsification technology which can
reach up to 1800 degree Celsius, allowing the incineration of many types
"NCKU has many top researches in waste incineration and melting
treatment," Dr. Shusaku added. He said that the set of equipment given
to NCKU can fulfill their functions while NCKU professors can continue
with their research on further improving waste treatment technology in
The new heat furnace given to NCKU, combined with the existing
incinerator and the plasma melting furnace at the NCKU ERMRC, can
further strengthen and integrate the heat treatment system.
