Peoples Trust Insurance CEO Mike Gold dies [Sun Sentinel :: ]


(South Florida Sun Sentinel (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 28--Sun Sentinel Mike Gold, the chief executive of South Florida-based People's Trust Insurance Co., died in his sleep Sunday. He was 60, the company said.

People's Trust were honored last week with a 2013 Florida governor's business award for innovation. The company added more than 40,000 policyholders, grew its staff from 162 to more than 425 and boosted premiums 230 percent to $208 million last year, an announcement said.



"I started People's Trust because I was a frustrated Florida homeowner paying too much for insurance and knew there had to be a better way," Gold had said.

Gold's "larger-than-life persona will be sorely missed," business partner George W. Schaeffer said in a statement Monday. "We will honor his vision by continuing to build on his success and providing our policyholders with the very best service." Founded in 2008 in Boca Raton, People's Trust invested $8 million in a new headquarters and is moving to Research Park at Florida Atlantic University in Deerfield Beach.


Gold is survived by his wife of 37 years, Eileen, and by four children and four grandchildren. The family requests information on funeral services remain private. Donations may be made to City of Hope for Diabetes Research in Duarte, CA or http://www.cityofhope.org.
