GMI Asks: Do You Support Legalizing Medical Marijuana for Recreational Use?WARREN, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- A short survey conducted by GMI, a Lightspeed Research Company, asked our research panel members in the US if they support legalizing marijuana for recreational use. Strong support at 33% was almost double the 17% of respondents that strongly opposed. Overall, strong support and those that somewhat support legalization of marijuana for recreational use were in the majority at 54% with an additional 20% that were neutral. On January 1st the nation's first recreational marijuana shops opened in Colorado. Currently, only Colorado and Washington sanction the purchase of marijuana for recreational use. Some industry observers believe that it is only a matter of time before more states follow. This reality prompted GMI to ask the consumers ages 18 and above, who have installed their newly introduced GMI mobile app to their smart phone, to give their thoughts on the subject. Not surprisingly, 40% of male consumers polled were in favor of the initiative, while female panelists responded with slightly less enthusiasm at 29%. The remaining levels of support are consistent among females and males, with strongopposition showing the greatest difference at 18% and 14% respectively. "We are committed to providing unique value to our clients through innovation, technology enabled solutions and stellar service which allow us to deliver high quality data and actionable consumer insights," said David Shanker, CEO, Americas for Lightspeed Research. "These mini polls reflect our commitment to our clients and enable us to engage consumers who have opted into our mobile panel to communicate what they are thinking."
