Get to know: Sajith Raj [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) This year and moving forward, the market will move towards application-based solutions, which will be hardware independent.

Sajith Raj, General Manager, Logicom Dubai.

What's your career history to date? How did you end up working in Dubai? I started as a sales consultant, selling IT/electronic products and moved on to product and procurement analyst, operations specialist, pre-sales and product management, business unit management, distribution and sales management, and now general management of distribution. I have been with Logicom for over 11 years.

If you could improve one thing about the channel business what would it be? The channel needs continuous education to understand about products, opportunities and positioning. This can differentiate one from another as the range of products and solution capabilities are endless. With specialised offerings on applications and the right mix of hardware products, channel businesses can be more rewarding.

What product or technology should the channel watch out for this year? This year and moving forward, the market will move towards application-based solutions, which will be hardware independent. With mobility and security being key components, the channel will see more opportunities where there is a specialised application getting developed for each industry vertical.

What is your proudest career achievement to date? I always believe "the best is yet to be achieved", which keeps me motivated to deliver my best. My proudest moment in my career till to date, goes back to my solution sales days.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given? "It is only by doing good to others that one attains one's own good". The difference is made only when you start believing it, and practising it in your own life.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made since working in the IT market? A mistake is always associated with learning and for me, the biggest mistake is if I don't learn from my blunders. It's not relevant to focus on mistakes if one doesn't learn from them.

Which IT company, other than your own, do you most admire and why? It has to be Google for making the world come to them to search for anything they want. (And of course this is purely based on the awareness and reach the company has with consumers).

What is the biggest challenge facing the Middle East IT channel? The biggest challenge faced by the IT channel is finance related. It is vital to look at certain facts like how many of the IT stakeholders are keen at harnessing the real IT opportunities in the market than focusing on 'fast turning cash engine' model.

What would you say is your favourite thing about the company you work for? It is the people around me, from the top to the bottom level. It's the people within our company that make me feel good when I look around.

What sort of interests do you have outside of work? Spending time with family and friends. I also like photography and writing.
