online hotels deal is a goer [Mirror (UK)]
(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HOLIDAYMAKERS will be able to enjoy greater access to online deals for cheap hotel rooms following an Office of Fair Trading investigation into alleged price fixing.
Three of the industry's biggest names were probed in 2010 after online travel firm Skoosh.com said it was being blocked by "various hotel chains" from offering cheap rooms.
But the OFT found no evidence of wrongdoing and Booking.com, Expedia and InterContinental Hotels Group have agreed to make their room-only discounts available to all online travel agents by the end of this month.
Under the new agreement, customers will have to sign up to loyalty schemes and make one booking at full price to qualify for all future deals.
An OFT spokeswoman said: "We are pleased to have secured this outcome, which should increase competition. By shopping around, people can ensure the best deal."
