Ooredoo offers free 4G service to its customers [Gulf Times (Qatar)]

(Gulf Times (Qatar) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) By Pratap John/Chief Business Reporter Ooredoo's 4G network that provides speed up to six times the existing 3G will be given permanently free to all its customers who have 4G-enabled handsets.

On 4G, customers can enjoy the "smoothest" Internet browsing experience - easily transfer big files, stream HD video from Ooredoo's Mozaic GO app and quickly update social media.

Ooredoo recently completed its countrywide rollout of 4G that reaches the ultra-fast mobile broadband service to all inhabited areas of Qatar.

The service provider gave both post-paid and pre-paid customers "free permanent access" to 4G key to coincide with the nationwide roll-out of 4G service.

The 4G offer was announced by Ooredoo chief operating officer Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed in the presence of CEO Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani and brand ambassador Nasser al-Attiyah at a press conference at Ooredoo Tower yesterday.

Since launching 4G, some 30,000 customers have signed up for ultra-fast mobile broadband service.

Post-paid customers were given access to 4G key for QR60 a month and Hala customers QR15 a week.

"Those of our post-paid customers who have already paid for 4G will be refunded," al-Sayed said.

He said the 4G service was being provided permanently free to Ooredoo customers as part of the telco's 2014 "Year of Digital" campaign.

The campaign will include major updates for Shahry and Hala customers, including revamped mobile data packs, as Ooredoo continues to cater to a growing number of smartphone users in Qatar with their upcoming #OoredooSmart campaign.

Al-Sayed said: "Last year we launched Qatar's fastest-ever 4G network, connected more than 100,000 customers to Ooredoo Fibre to homes, launched Business Fibre and drove innovation with our Ooredoo App. So this year, in celebration of our customers who helped us achieve all of this, we're making 4G free to say thank you for your support and to kick off #OoredooSmart." To access the 4G key on mobile and smartphone devices, Hala customers should SMS the keyword "4G" for free to 121. Shahry customers can send "4G" to 114.

Ooredoo has urged customers to ensure their phones are 4G enabled before they activate the 4G key. Customers can find out if they have a 4G ready phone through www.ooredoo.qa/en/4G-devices The "Year of Digital" campaign will include a push toward a more independent and self-sufficient customer service.

Ooredoo said it would be actively participating in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, during which the service provider would be making an announcement on "another major milestone" for the company.
