AppZero Windows Server 2003 EOS Survey Reveals Vulnerability Management Fears: Enterprises Worry about Security Compliance

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Andover, MA (PRWEB) February 04, 2014 AppZero, the fastest way to move enterprise applications, today announced the results of its first "State of Readiness for Windows Server 2003 End of Support (EOS)" survey. The 2013 results of more than 200 Fortune 1,000 companies show that 40% of respondents wish to move to the cloud as part of their EOS remediation efforts.

The full results of the survey are available here and indicate that with eighteen months until support ends, the majority of respondents still have significant numbers of machines running WS2003. Security compliance and vulnerability management are a major concern and many organizations are not aware of or prepared to deal with the impending challenge.

Microsoft has announced that End of Support for Windows Server 2003 is July 14, 2015 and recommends AppZero for moving a variety of applications from Windows Server 2003. Industry experts estimate that there are more than 12 million machines still running WS2003 that are at issue. Especially for those in regulated industries – pharmaceutical, banking, insurance, oil and gas - this will cause a heavy compliance burden.

"AppZero is the only technology that can "up-level" production Windows applications onto a newer operating system," said AppZero CEO, Greg O’Connor. "We conducted the survey to size the problem because the choice people make in remediating this issue can affect their datacenter strategy for the foreseeable future. We felt that a majority would want to move to the cloud and modernize in one step." The survey provides insight into the pain points shared among the respondents and reveals clarity into the upgrade path the majority intends to follow. At the conclusion of the findings, AppZero shares recommendations that can be followed to protect from the risk of running an unsupported operating system.

According to new research by GigaOm, "While perhaps lacking the drama of Y2K mediation at the end of the last millennium, the Windows Server 2003 event touches on all of the same issues, including large mitigation expenses and soft risk factors." "As with Y2K, the Windows Server 2003 end-of-support event is significant, but with proper planning can be managed smoothly, eliminating disruption. Careful consideration of the costs and risks involved will enable IT personnel to choose the mitigation methods most appropriate for the organization." AppZero is the fastest, most flexible way to move server applications to and across any cloud or datacenter, without code change or lock-in. Encapsulating Windows applications in VM/OS-free packages, AppZero’s patented software moves complex server applications with ease. AppZero allows you to modernize your infrastructure, moving from an old OS to a newer one with the click of a button - modernize and move to the cloud in one step.
