N'compass Launches Information Security and Risk Solutions Practice

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--

N'compass Solutions, Inc., a leading business IT strategy firm based in Minneapolis, has launched a new Information Security and Risk Solutions practice dedicated to the needs of data-intense corporations, non-profits, school systems and government agencies. The new practice team will focus exclusively on data security compliance, strategy, and infrastructure requirements.

N'compass is forming the new practice to help organizations secure their data environments with the intent of reducing risks and increasing their competitive advantage. Believing that U.S. companies and organizations will see more data breaches in the years to come, the IT strategy firm has developed a new, holistic approach to information security practices that can help more organizations both prevent and, in the event of breach, contain damage.

"In some industries, being able to promote an organization's financial and operational stability represents a key selling point to obtaining a customer's business," said Chris Flaherty, CEO of N'compass. "We believe the new point of differentiation will be data security stability. In other words, can your organization prevent, and in the event of an attack, bounce back swiftly? Customers want to know that they're not at risk because the organization hasn't carefully developed and implemented a data security strategy. That's why we're forming this new practice - to cntinue to give our clients the competitive edge they need."

With the growing amount of media coverage and focus on corporate data breaches, N'compass believes it's critical for organizations to focus on the whole strategy, not just prevention. The way an organization handles a data breach is an important part of any strategy - and ultimately, building and maintaining trusted relationships with key stakeholder groups, such as customers, investors, suppliers and employees.

With that focus, N'compass' Information Security and Risk Solutions will offer three areas of expertise:

  • Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC)
  • Vulnerability Assessments
  • Security Infrastructure Development

Leading N'compass' new Information Security and Risk Solutions is Mike Hrubes, who joined N'compass from financial services provider Moneygram, where he served as manager of information security systems. Hrubes has 18 years experience in information technology and data security.

"There is a definite a gap in the industry around security practices," said Mike Hrubes, Director of N'compass' Information Security and Risk Solutions. "Most consulting companies focus on assessing current vulnerabilities against industry standards and then alert their clients about potential gaps. We don't believe that many of these assessments address the big picture, and therefore, leave many organizations vulnerable. Organizations need a complete security program that considers prevention, detection, incident response, compliance, and corporate communications. The bottom line: It's not necessarily about fixing the gap of the day - it's about getting ahead of the fixes with a strategic program."

To help organizations better understand why a holistic approach is critical to data security, N'compass is launching a five-part webinar series. The series, dubbed "Don't Get Breach-Slapped," will focus on suggestions for building a successful security program, as well as more detailed advice on web attacks, mobility and end-user security. The first webinar in the series is scheduled to occur on February 11, 2014. To learn more visit: N'compass Data Security Webinar Series.
