State trains 217 officials in data security [Business Daily (Kenya)]

(Business Daily (Kenya) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The government has trained 217 officers on protecting information systems from hackers and ensuring services are rendered in times of distress in line with performance contracts.

The officers from 110 departments were trained on information security management systems (ISMS) and business continuity management system in a bid to equip them with skills to protect institutional databases and to continue operations during unexpected events.

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) managing director Zachary Mwangi said the training was conducted by the British Standards Institution through Alpex Consulting Africa.

Under the performance contracts, ministries and departments are required to put in place an ISMS that ensures information accuracy is safeguarded and only accessible to authorised people.

Public entities are also required to train at least ten champions on ISMS starting this year.
