AHF MCO Awarded AHCA Managed Medical Assistance Contract to Serve Broward, Miami-Dade & Monroe County HIV/AIDS Patients

FT LAUDERDALE, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

AHF MCO of Florida, an affiliate of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, has been awarded a new contract from Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to develop Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) programs that operate specialty health care plans serving populations with a distinct diagnosis or chronic condition-in the case of AHF MCO, for individuals with HIV/AIDS. AHF MCO was awarded a contract covering Regions 10 & 11-Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

The new AHF MCO contract came about in response to a Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) from AHCA issued in December 2012 after the Florida Legislature created a new statute (Part IV of Chapter 409, Florida Statutes) in 2011 directing AHCA create the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program, of which the new Managed Medical Assistance programs will be a part. AHF MCO of Florida was one of five companies selected through the RFP process to provide specialty plans to serve specific populations with a distinct diagnosis or chronic condition, such as HIV/AIDS. Under the MMA contract, AHF MCO will develop specialty needs plans in Broward County (Region 10) and Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties (Region 11) and begin providing services under the contract July 1, 2014.

"We are honored to be awarded a contract by the Agency for Health Care Administration for these two HIV/AIDS special needs plans in Region 10 and 11-encompassing Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties," said Donna Stidhm, Chief of Managed Care for AHF MCO of Florida. "We are also eager to adapt over twenty years of HIV/AIDS managed care experience as well as over fifteen years of expertise caring for thousands of Florida MediPass HIV/AIDS Disease Management patients to the new Managed Medical Assistance Special Needs Program and believe that the Special Needs Plans-like our other programs before-can greatly improve health outcomes and quality of life for HIV/AIDS patients while reducing costs for the State of Florida."

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has operated the Positive Healthcare Disease Management Program, a successful and cost-effective HIV/AIDS disease management program serving thousands of Florida Medicaid recipients for the past fifteen years. Since 2008, AHF MCO has operated a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug health plan specifically for Medicare beneficiaries who are living with HIV and reside in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties (PHC HMO SNP). Since 2010, AHF MCO of Florida, Inc., AHF's affiliate, has operated two Florida Medicaid managed care plans designed specifically for HIV-positive individuals who are eligible for Medicaid (PHC Florida-Broward County, PHC Florida-Miami Dade County).
