BRIEF: Gas leak in Dupo prompts evacuation while workers attempt to repair gas line [St. Louis Post-Dispatch :: ]

(St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 07--DUPO --No one was injured in a gas leak that occurred at a telemarketing firm today, authorities say.

A 4-inch gas pipe cracked about 2:15 p.m. in the rear of Pinnacle Automotive Protection Systems, a marketing firm, at 130 North Main Street, according to Dupo Fire Capt. Monte Miller. The heavy odor of gas was detected and police were called.

About 40 employees were evacuated from the business along with 10 other people from three nearby businesses.

Two apartment buildings and six single-family homes were also cleared out, he said. Miller said the evacuations were precautionary. A shelter was opened at First Baptist Church at 620 Godin Avenue to assist the displaced.

The Dupo Gas Department is working to find and fix the problem, he said. He expects the repair to go on into the evening.

The weather is believed to have been the culprit.
