Lincoln hospital's CEO resigns to take job in Pennsylvania [Bangor Daily News (ME)](Bangor Daily News (ME) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LINCOLN, Maine -- Penobscot Valley Hospital CEO David Shannon is resigning his position to take a job in Pennsylvania and be closer to his family, officials said Friday. The hospital's board of directors accepted Shannon's resignation during a meeting on Monday, effectively agreeing to end Shannon's more than 20-year career with the hospital as its chief financial officer, executive director and CEO, spokeswoman Kristie Libby said. Shannon said in a statement released by Libby that he will work as CEO of Jersey Shore Hospital of Jersey Shore, Pa. The new job will allow him to be closer to family in an area a few hours from where he grew up. Shannon's last date at work in Maine has not been set, Libby said. A press release stated Shannon was expected to stay through the end of March. "Your passion for medicine and commitment to the health of our community are very evident to me," Shannon said in a statement praising the hospital's staff. "I know these qualities will be apparent and impressive to the future leaders at PVH." Board members voted unanimously to have Shannon succeed outgoing CEO Ronald Victory in September 2006. Victory retired after 21 years. Prior to coming to Lincoln, Shannon worked as a chief financial officer for several hospitals and health services in Pennsylvania. He is a native of Harrisburg, Pa. When he became CEO, an expansion doubling the size of Penobscot Valley Hospital's surgical suites was almost finished, while renovated waiting rooms, labor and delivery suites, switchboard and patient registration and laboratory workroom areas had been completed or were awaiting completion. The most recent construction project at the hospital, a helipad, was completed in 2008. Orthopedic services and a clinic were added to the hospital in 2012. The total price tag of the work fell just short of $5 million. A national search for a replacement for Shannon will be conducted with the assistance of Quorum Health Resources, an affiliate of Penobscot Valley Hospital. No timetable has been set for hiring the next CEO, according to a press release posted by the Maine Hospital Association. Shannon was also a member of the RSU 67 Board of Directors, helping oversee the education of the students of Chester, Lincoln and Mattawamkeag. RSU 67 Superintendent Ray Freve said Shannon will be missed. "He was an excellent board member. He was businesslike, he listened to both sides before he made a decision. He was very financially astute," Freve said. "He didn't believe in surprises, so he always kept me in the loop. "He was an excellent board member, and I have had a lot of them to compare him to," Freve added. Quorum Health Resources will assist the hospital with its national search for a replacement for Shannon, who declined to be interviewed. The organization will provide the hospital with interim management support to help hospital workers with the transition to a new CEO, Libby said. No replacement timetable has been set, she said.
