ComputerXplorers South West Scotland Offers Free Programming Workshops to Primary Schools

(Cision Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Educational Specialist Offers Free Programming Workshops to South West Scotland Primary Schools during Programming for Primaries Awareness Week Most experts now agree that learning to code or program is a vital ingredient for future success. Programming skills are rapidly changing our world, but more importantly learning to program teaches a child to think differently, express creativity and feel empowered.

Computing is a core part of the Technologies framework within the Curriculum for Excellence. Scottish schools lead the way in teaching computing to primary age children, but there can be a major challenge for some schools to meet the expectations and outcomes set out in the Principles and Practices of the framework.

As part of its commitment to help teachers meet this challenge, East Kilbride based technology education specialist ComputerXplorers South West Scotland is offering free programming workshops (http://www.swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk/) to primary schools in the area during the national Programming for Primaries Awareness Week (http://www.swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk/) which runs from 24 – 30 March.

Explained ComputerXplorers director John McGill: “We know how hard it is for teachers to find time away from school so we are offering to bring these sessions into local schools.

“Our free programming workshop (http://www.swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk/) for children will have them designing and programming their own video game while our free programming session (http://www.swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk/) for Primary School teaching staff will help them develop a better understanding of the computing curriculum and give them practical hands on programming experience.” ComputerXplorers has worked with many schools in the area including St Brides Primary in East Kilbride and Crookfur Primary in Newton Mearns to help children grasp key computing skills from an early age.

ComputerXplorers is the driving force behind the first ever Programming for Primaries Week. The aim of the week is to provide a platform for like minded organisations to communicate the benefits of programming for younger children and shine the spotlight on programming and coding support and resources that are available to children and teachers in primary schools. Schools interested in signing up for a free workshop for teaching staff or children should contact John McGill at john@swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk  (http://file///L:/Clients/ComputerXplorers/2014/programming%20for%20prim aries/john@swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk%20%20)by 28 February as resources are limited or visit the website for more information www.swscotland.computerxplorers.co.uk About ComputerXplorers ComputerXplorers is the leading provider of quality technology education for children from the ages of 3 to 13.  The clubs and classes are engaging, educational and fun, and are run in a variety of settings, such as after school clubs, pre-school and nurseries, summer camps and in-curriculum time classes.  For pre-school children ComputerXplorers covers everything from podcasting, digital photography programming and robotics to digital microscopes and an introduction to the internet.
