WiTricity Joins the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) to Commercialize Resonant Wireless Power

WATERTOWN, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

WiTricity, the leader in developing and deploying wireless power systems that deliver power safely and efficiently over distance, today announced that it has joined the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) as a board member. As the holder of the foundational patents for highly resonant wireless power transfer over distance, WiTricity technology is part of the backbone of the A4WP's new Rezence™ specification for wireless power transfer based on this magnetic resonance.

WiTricity's highly resonant wireless power transfer technology enables a host of unique benefits, including simultaneous charging of multiple devices with differing power requirements, and 'spatial freedom' for additional reach in the z-direction, eliminating the hassle of accurate coil alignment - all on a single charging surface or in a charging region.

In joining the A4WP, WiTricity brings not only its expertise in designing and developing highly resonant wireless power transfer solutions, but also an openness to license its fundamental technology for use with the Rezence specification so that the Rezence specification can be widely adopted and deployed across an ever-widening range of applications.

"WiTricity has been designing and developing systems based on highly resonant wireless power transfer for a number of years, and our list of licensees extends across the automotive, consumer electronics, medical, industrial, and military markets," said Eric Giler, CEO of WiTricity. "By taking an active role in the A4WP, we aim to accelerate the adoption of WiTricity' technology in the electronics that consumers rely on every day, and we're excited to lead the way to a wireless tomorrow."

Since its founding in 2007, WiTricity has secured $45 Million in funding from major global powerhouses, including Intel (News - Alert), Foxconn/Hon Hai, Toyota, Schlumberger, and Haier. In addition, a number of companies have licensed WiTricity's technology including Toyota, the world's largest automotive manufacturer; Foxconn, the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer; semiconductor firm MediaTek (News - Alert); medical devices leader Thoratec; Delphi, the global supplier of technologies for the automotive and commercial vehicle markets; and IHI leader of industrial, construction, energy, and automotive products and systems.

WiTricity recently showcased the first iPhone 5/5s wireless charging system using their technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES (News - Alert)) earlier this year, and that reference design will be immediately made available to the A4WP group. In addition to accelerating their activities in the consumer electronics space, WiTricity will continue to design, develop, and deploy their highly resonant wireless power technology in the automotive, industrial, medical and military markets.

About WiTricity

WiTricity is the industry leader in wireless electricity delivered over distance and holds the foundational patents for Highly Resonant Wireless Power Transfer technology. The company was founded in 2007 to commercialize an exciting new technology for wireless electricity invented by world-renowned physicists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT (News - Alert)). With a growing list of global licensees in industries including consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices and defense, WiTricity has emerged as the leader in highly resonant wireless power transfer.
