Company Cleans Up Mugabe Way

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A local mobile phone company, Astro Zimbabwe has embarked on the cleaning of the entire Robert Mugabe Way in Harare as a build up to the celebration of the President's birthday.

Mugabe turns 90 on February 21.

The company intends to make the cleaning a monthly routine where it celebrates Mugabe's life by cleaning the road that was named after him.

Astro marketing manager, Kevin Nyakotyo said they decided to clean Robert Mugabe Way as a way of showing appreciation to the President's policies that support their company.

"Our President has implemented the policy of indigenisation which will help us to grow and promote the use of devices that are made in Zimbabwe," he said.

Astro sales manager, Trust Jakachira concurred saying Astro Zim are an indigenous brand.

"We want to make Zimbabweans aware of locally produced gadgets and also encourage them to support Zimbabwean products," he said.

The cleanup campaign began on February 8 with 20 staff members partnering with the City of Harare to clean Robert Mugabe Way between 1st and 2nd streets.

Sales and distribution manager, Eve Masairi said the company was 18 months old but its members had grown remarkably.

"The business is rapidly growing and we boast of over 30 000 sales since we started," she said. "We want to make every Zimbabwean able to access technology through our wide range of gadgets by making them affordable for everyone." Copyright Zimbabwe Standard.
