BRIEF: Brandon Daniel on trial for capital murder in 2012 slaying of Austin police officer Jaime Padron [Austin American-Statesman :: ]
(Austin American-Statesman (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 18--At the center of what will likely become the biggest trial to unfold in Travis County this year is the fragmented image of a young man with a once-budding future, now charged with killing an Austin police officer.
To those closest to him, Brandon Daniel was "a brilliant kid" from the Denver suburbs, "a computer nerd" who studied at Colorado State University and "a promising software engineer" at Hewlett-Packard in Austin. His defense lawyers have hinted at his struggles with depression, and public records have revealed a string of arrests for minor crimes, such as drug possession and driving while intoxicated.
