Galaxy S5 'confirmed' to have fingerprint scanner [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]
(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Samsung's soon-to-be-unveiled flagship handset, the Galaxy S5 will incorporate a fingerprint sensor, according to fan site SamMobile.
The site, which monitors all things Samsung, "confirmed" the presence of biometrics, citing inside sources, and also reported that the smartphone's display will show a real-time image of the user's finger as it moves across the sensor, which will be integrated into the S5's home button.
SamMobile pointed out that the sensor is prone to error, requiring dry fingers, and slow, steady swiping from the base of the finger to the tip, to work properly. But Samsung has tailored its error messages to let users know exactly what they are doing wrong.
The scanner can register up to eight fingerprints, which can be used throughout the OS. Users will be able to assign prints to unlock the device and to act as shortcuts to other apps and features. Samsung has also provided a personal folder system that allows users to lock away content they want to keep private.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to be unveiled at a special event next week in Barcelona, during Mobile World Congress 2014.
