Khalifa Fund organises second Ibtikari competition [Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates)]

Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development yesterday organised the second Ibtikari initiative in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and ICT Fund, which resulted in getting 17 ideas in the ICT field.
The competition was attended by more than 200 Emiratis to exchange and formalize ideas.
"Khalifa Fund is seeking to instill the value of entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation among different society segments through the various programs and initiatives such as "Ibtikari" program which was introduced for the first time last year with participation of 200 Emiratis," said Abdulla Saeed Al Darmaki, Chief Executive Officer of Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development.
The Fund has given special interest to the Information Technology sector and financed 12 projects with a total amount of Dh15 million.
"We also value the role of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and ICT Fund in providing the support for our applicants that allow them to grow. In addition, the Fund will participate in the National Scientific Exhibition in Dubai end of April, and we hope that the success ideas from Ibtikari can participate in this important exhibition," added Al Darmaki.
The first three winning projects from this year as well as the winning projects from last year competition will be incubated in order to have the chance to develop and grow.
"Khalifa Fund aims from this initiative to discover the Emiratis entrepreneurs in the field of ICT and smart applications," said Fatema Mohamed Al Muhairi the head of Ibtikari initiative, the manager of Entrepreneurship Development Department in Khalifa Fund. She also added that the Fund will organized an intensive training program about innovative thinking and ways to improve it early next month for five days for the participants.
"The individuals who have presented ideas will join a training course for 5 days early next month, as well as to convey them to commercial and investment ideas. In addition, they will be exposed to lots of information regarding marketing, management, legal and accounting procedures", explained Al Muhairi.
"A committee of experts from Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and other specialized entities such as Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, ICT Fund and Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee will evaluate the ideas and will select the winning projects to move to incubation phase of 90 days for final approval," added Al Muhairi.
"Our collaboration with Khalifa Fund is a reflect to our interest to make a significant move to the science and knowledge world in order to prepare the Emiratis to face the challenges and needs of the future to establish national projects with an Emirati signature. As well as to build civilized society that can keep up the scientific and knowledge development in the developed countries," said Dr. Abdulqader Al Khayat, Chairman of Board of Trustees in ICT Fund.
"We are pleased with the results of Ibtikari program especially for the Emiratis participated in presenting their creative ideas in ICT sector to serve the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi. Our initiative to sponsor Ibtikari is part of Tourism & Culture Authority strategy to prepare the Emirati labour to play an effective role in the tourism sector and the related industries," said Sultan Al Dhahri, Acting Director of the tourism sector in ADTC.
Khalifa Fund sent invitation to the Emiratis employees in more than 67 government and semi-government entities, as well as 4 national universities to participate in this program. Accordingly 400 Emiratis have registered in the Ibtikari program.
