Leading names heading to Hartpury to pass on wisdom [Edition 3] [Gloucestershire Echo (England)]

(Gloucestershire Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SOME of the UK's top performance coaches and leaders in coach education will head to Hartpury College next week for a prestigious conference.

Hartpury are the first higher education institution to be asked to host the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level Four Community of Practice conference, which is the third event of its kind.

The college are organising the event, which takes place on Tuesday and Wednesdsy, in close collaboration with Sports Coach UK.

More than 60 delegates have been invited with 12 different sports and nine sporting universities represented, including hosts Hartpury.

The speakers leading the interactive seminars come from a wide range of spheres, from the Armed Forces to alpine mountaineering to drugs counselling.

Top-level sports people will also be among the presenters, including former European Swimming Championships medallist Sarah Collings.

Former England and British and Irish Lions second row Nigel Redman, who was recently appointed as British Swimming's elite coach development lead, will also be the guest speaker for the evening celebration at Hartpury House on Monday.


He will be introduced by Sports Coach UK chief executive Dr Tony Byrne.

The interactive workshops will be aimed at providing development opportunities for high-performing coaches.

There will be sessions focused on coaching children and people with disabilities, coaching psychology and language and looking at how the latest military thinking could relate to high-performance coaching.

The programme also includes presentations by the UK Anti-Doping Agency and by Tony Faulkner, founder of Provelop, who will lead discussions concerning the potential contribution of neuroscience in developing players and coaches.

The event will be supported by Hartpury postgraduate students as part of their masters in coaching science.

They have produced a conference catalogue as part of their coach education module and will interview the Sports Coach UK coach educators responsible for participation, talent and disability pathways. Sports coaching undergraduates will also attend the conference. Hartpury College principal Russell Marchant said: "We're delighted to be hosting such a prestigious conference and welcoming top UK coaches and leaders in sports education to Hartpury.

"It will also offer a fantastic opportunity for the postgraduate and undergraduate students involved.

"A packed programme is planned over the two days.
