Qualcomm unveils new ultra HD processor [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)](ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Qualcomm Technologies Inc, has introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 processor, the first fully integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) designed for next-generation smart TVs, smart set-top boxes and smart digital media adapters. According to the company, the Snapdragon 802 processor is designed to power the latest smart TVs with ultra HD resolution, offering seamless decoding of Ultra HD video content, rich user interfaces and console-quality gaming. Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 802 processor includes features developed by Qualcomm Technologies specifically for TVs, such as broadcast, analogue and digital I/O interfaces and a custom Android software framework based on Kit Kat that is designed to enable OEM customers to develop performance and media optimised Android solutions for smart consumer electronic devices. Qualcomm added that it has achieved superior processing performance with the Snapdragon 802 processor through the efficient integration of its custom-designed processing components, including its heterogeneous computing architecture. "In addition to offering our expertise in the smartphone space, we also are introducing capabilities specific to the smart TV space, which enable our customers to redefine the smart TV category by combining the best of both TV and smartphone experiences," said Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies Inc and co-president of QCT. "Combining the efficient integration of our Snapdragon processing and connectivity components with Qualcomm Technologies' demonstrated expertise in Android will enable the ultimate home entertainment experience with compelling new ways to watch, play and interact."
