United States : ENTREPRENEURS make software [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A Sioux Falls publishing company spun out a software startup whose service goal is to help small-business owners construct their own websites.

Hopscotch Software was founded by XRX Publishing CEO Benjamin Levisay and app developer Bernie Berg. They originally construct the product for managing XRX s website before deciding to launch a company around the software.

A web search is all it takes to see there s no shortage of companies offering small-business website solutions. Berg and Levisay believe the flexibility and ease of use of their system can help it stand out in the crowded field of competitors.

Berg said, The challenge is getting people to look at it. Once they look at it and use the tools, they re ours.

Users can try the service free for 30 days and then they pay $15, $30 or $45 a month depending on features. Levisay said the drag-and-drop page layout tools should feel intuitive to anyone familiar with basic office or desktop-publishing software.

Levisay said, What we have here is, in essence, a page-layout system that has been brought forward into the web-development world. For example, users can resize images by dragging corners, and lower and raise layers into the back or foreground.

The company opened with a launch in October 2014. It relied only on word-of-mouth marketing. From mid-January 2014 it had around 100 registered users, including around a dozen paying customers.
