WhatsApp restored after a brief outage [Times of Oman]

(Times of Oman Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Muscat: WhatsApp, the rapidly expanding mobile messaging app, suffered an outage for more than few hours on Saturday evening.

In its twitter account, Omantel said that WhatsApp is not working because their server is down. "It is a worldwide technical problem including Oman," it said.

Later, WhatsApp tweeted to its more than 1 million Twitter followers that their services had been restored. "We are so sorry for the downtime," WhatsApp tweeted.

Earlier, the service had said it was "experiencing server issues" without providing further details.

In Oman WhatsApp is a craze, especially amongst the youngsters, who are using smartphone applications.

According to the subscribers of WhatsApp messaging, the service is cheaper compared to normal SMS service in Oman.

"Ever since WhatsApp started, I have stopped using normal SMS and told all my friends and family members to join because it has proved to be cheaper," said Mohammad, a prepaid customer of a reputed mobile firm.

"We are all very happy that it has been restored quickly," he added.
