Inter-Lakes CEO leaving [The Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, N.Y. :: ]

(Press-Republican (Plattsburgh, NY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 25--TICONDEROGA -- On the heels of laying off 13 employees, Inter-Lakes Health of Ticonderoga also lost its chief executive officer.

The health-care provider announced Monday that Inter-Lakes CEO Chip Holmes is leaving April 4 for a job with Quorum Health Resources of Tennessee, a provider of health-care management services.

Inter-Lakes Health Board of Directors Chair Sandra Bolton also said the institution has signed a memorandum of understanding with Community Providers Inc. of Plattsburgh, the parent company of CVPH Medical Center, to provide management and medical services.

"This move would give Inter-Lakes Health access to shared administrative and clinical resources that could lower operational costs and enhance patient care," Bolton said in a news release.

FINANCIAL WOES Inter-Lakes Health, whose Moses-Ludington Hospital has experienced financial turmoil since the early 1980s, laid off 13 workers on Thursday, Feb. 13, reduced another 10 to part time from full time and eliminated 10 jobs that were vacant.

In announcing the cuts, Holmes said Inter-Lakes lost more than $3 million last year and that the downsizing was necessary to try to restore financial stability to the operation that includes Moses-Ludington Hospital and Heritage Commons nursing home.

Inter-Lakes Health will employ 256 people at the hospital and nursing home after the cutbacks.

INTERIM CEO Holmes was also a vice president at Fletcher Allen Executive Services LLC of Burlington and had been at the helm at Inter-Lakes for 2 1/2 years.

Fletcher Allen Executive Services LLC provided management services to oversee Inter-Lakes operations, and those services will come from Community Providers Inc., if the deal is approved.

Holmes will be replaced by Charles Miceli, vice president of Supply Chain and Information Services at Fletcher Allen, as interim CEO, until a permanent replacement is named.

Miceli served as interim CEO of Inter-Lakes in 2011, prior to Holmes's appointment.

Holmes and Miceli were both at Inter-Lakes Health through an agreement with Fletcher Allen Executive Services.

AFFILIATION Community Providers Inc. is a member of Fletcher Allen Partners, based in Burlington, so if the affiliation is OK'd, Inter-Lakes will be a member of Fletcher Allen Partners, as well.

The proposed affiliation with Community Providers Inc. is subject to review and approval by the Fletcher Allen Partners Board and the New York State Health Department, hospital officials said.

Fletcher Allen Partners is the parent organization of Community Providers Inc., Central Vermont Medical Center and Fletcher Allen Health Care.

'EXCELLENT WORK' Bolton said Holmes has done a great job at Inter-Lakes.

"I want to recognize Chip for his excellent work in leading Inter-Lakes Health; he will be missed," he said in the release.

"Chip has done an excellent job of preparing Inter-Lakes to explore affiliation with CPI (Community Providers Inc.).

"Meanwhile, I am pleased that Charlie Miceli is returning to us from Fletcher Allen as interim CEO." SERVICES TO CONTINUE Stephens Mundy, president and CEO of CVPH Medical Center, Community Providers Inc. and the Fletcher Allen Partners executive vice president for Northern New York, said in the release he believes the move will be good for Inter-Lakes' long-term financial future.

"Speaking for Fletcher Allen Partners and John Brumsted, the Partners' CEO, we are excited to be exploring affiliation with Inter-Lakes Health. I want to assure the people served by Inter-Lakes Health that the organization will continue to provide needed services to the region." Mundy said he expects the affiliation process to be approved by mid-year.

"With the many changes taking place at Inter-Lakes Health, we will focus on completing the due diligence that is part of the process and concluding the affiliation as quickly as we can. I anticipate that the process will be completed within a few months." Email Lohr McKinstry:[email protected] ___ (c)2014 the Press-Republican (Plattsburgh, N.Y.)
