Boise restaurant-software firm Khamu buys marketing business [The Idaho Statesman :: ]

(Idaho Statesman (Boise) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 27--A Boise company that makes software used for taking orders in restaurants, hospitals and sports venues has acquired a Boise digital-marketing business.

Khamu Solutions LLC, 1655 W. Fairview Ave. Suite 119, bought Initiativeinc LLC for an undisclosed amount of cash. Khamu said the purchase adds two full-time and two part-time employees to Khamu, bringing its staff to 12 full-time and seven part-time employees.

Initiativeinc was owned by Mark Ouma. Khamu's principal owner is its CEO, Steve Lipkin, who shares ownership with partner Ray Nelson.

Khamu, founded in 2002, makes point-of-sale software that wait staff and restaurant managers can use to take orders and handle other tasks on tablets and other hardware. Initiativeinc, founded in 2010, was based at 720 W. Idaho St. next door to Khamu's previous location. It offers integrated online ordering website design, social-media marketing and digital menu boards.

The purchase "allows us to offer everything needed for restaurants and stadiums of all sizes in regards to digital marketing and signage," Lipkin said. "We realize that digital marketing will continue to grow in importance for restaurants, and this acquisition cements our lead in this market." Khamu means "genius" in the Sherpa language, Lipkin said. He said he picked the name after reading a National Geographic article about the Sherpa people.

Lipkin said Khamu's Sapphire software has hundreds of customers nationwide and is Food Services of America's exclusive partner for point-of-sale solutions and web services.
