(Canadian Press DataFile Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TORONTO _ Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange: Toronto Stock Exchange (14,209.59 down 5.15 points): Inter Pipeline Ltd. (TSX:IPL). Oil and gas. Up 96 cents, or 3.31 per cent, to $29.95 on 14.7 million shares.



Mercator Minerals Ltd. (TSX:ML). Miner. Up 1.5 cents, or 16.67 per cent, to 10.5 cents on 9.7 million shares.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Up 20 cents, or 3.51 per cent, to $5.90 on 7.9 million shares.


Southern Pacific Resource Corp. (TSX:STP). Oil and gas. Up four cents, or 27.59 per cent, to 18.5 cents on 7.1 million shares.

Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. (TSX:PGD). Miner. Up 2.5 cents, or 5.38 per cent, to 49 cents on 6.8 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (1,025.37 up 5.94 points): Petromanas Energy Inc. (TSXV:PMI). Oil and gas. Down 3.5 cents, or 14.58 per cent, to 20.5 cents on 7.6 million shares.

TriStar Gold Inc. (TSXV:TSG). Miner. Up 1.5 cents, or 13.64 per cent, to 12.5 cents on 6.8 million shares.

Companies reporting major news: Mega Brands Inc. (TSX:MB.). Toymaker. Up $4.65, or 35.58 per cent, at $17.72 on 1.58 million shares. The stock shot up on news of a friendly, US$460-million takeover by Mattel, the world's largest toy company. Mattel has offered C$17.75 in cash per share for Mega Brands and would assume the company's debt of about $60 million.

TELUS Corp. (TSX:T). Communication services. Up 34 cents, or 0.87 per cent, to $39.23 on 1.8 million shares. The major wireless carrier, in a surprise move, has pulled out of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, the lobby group that represents the telecommunications industry, saying it can do a better job on behalf of customers on its own.
