It's raining jobs this year [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)](DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Pune: With the economic slowdown ahead of the college placements, it was anticipated that the placement scenario in city colleges would be bleak. Surprisingly, the slump in the market has not affected the recruitment, as till date city's premier institute, College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) has recorded 73 per cent placements. According to the college's placement cell, three students from the college have been shortlisted by Japanese bigwig for the final interview. Officials say that if they get selected, their annual package would be around Rs40 lakh. Around 73 companies including TCS, Wipro, Barclays, John Deere, Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture and other major names in IT, automobile, civil engineering, etc. have visited their campus and recruited students. "We are also in talks with Facebook, which has recently acquired Whatsapp, to come for campus recruitment. We are sure that we will rope them soon," said Sandip Meshram, professor and training and placement head. He added that the placement season at the college has just started and will go one for the next few months. "We are sure that this year, we will have 90 per cent placements this year," he said. He added, "From our M.Tech section, three students have been shortlisted by Ebara Corporation, which is into the productions of pumps, compressors, turbines, refrigeration and heating equipments, blowers and fans in Japan. All these students will be going to Tokyo to appear for the final round." While speaking to dna, Amar Patil, one of the shortlisted candidates, said that he is sure that they would be getting the offer letter as the firm is keen on taking students from India. Another student Vaishali Jadhav from the CoEP's IT department has been offered Rs30 lakh per annum by another Japanese firm called Rakuten Inc. Manoj Mehrotra, head of placements at MIT College of management, said that 50 per cent of the recruitment have been conducted this year. Firms like Zomato, Aditya Birla Retail, Eclerx, Asian Paints, S&PIQ, Iplace, BNY Mellon, Airtel, Vodafone, MarketsandMarkets, Quick Heal and many more have come to the campus and recruited students. The highest salary that has been offered is Rs6.7 lakh per annum and average is close to Rs4 lakh p.a. "Many more bigwigs are geared up and likely to visit the campus for hiring," said Mehrotra. Professor P Subramaniam, director of Industrial Academics, said that the market condition is improving in the coming days. Col Milan Chatterjee, head of Training and Placement department at Bharati Vidyapeeth, said that though several big firms visit the campus for hiring, it is very essential for students to know how to face the interviews and crack them. "Activities like arranging on-job training, industrial visits and career guidance lectures to students can make the students ready for the interviews and can boost the confidence," he said. He said that at the university till date, more than 130 firms have recruited as many as 200 students and the placements will go on for the next few months.
