BRIEF: Lowe's chief information officer leaves company [The Charlotte Observer :: ]

(Charlotte Observer (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 07--Mooresville-based Lowe's chief information officer Kevin Summers has left the home improvement retailer after less than two years on the job, Lowe's confirmed Friday.

Paul Ramsay, a senior vice president of information technology who joined Lowe's in 2011, has been named acting chief information officer.

"Kevin left the company last Friday," said Lowe's spokeswoman Chris Ahearn. She declined to provide specifics on the reasons for his departure.

She said Summers, who was an executive at appliance-maker Whirlpool, was hired at Lowe's in 2012 to help the company assess its information technology needs and build a strong leadership team. Lowe's has invested millions of dollars in recent years into overhauling customer-facing computer services with the new MyLowe's program and a new Lowe's for Pros website. The company has also upgraded its in-store computer systems and handed out tens of thousands of iPhones to help associates quickly assist customers.

Ahearn said Summers departure was in no way related to a data breach of the kind that affected Target recently and cost CIO Beth Jacob her job this week. Ahearn said Lowe's is not dealing with any such problems.
