Santa Clara County Proclamation Marks 40th Anniversary of Satellite Healthcare

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Satellite Healthcare, Inc., among the nation's leading not-for-profit providers of kidney dialysis and related services and a major sponsor of kidney research, today announced the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors has issued a proclamation recognizing Satellite's 40 years of service to those with kidney disease.

The proclamation, put forth by District 4 Supervisor Ken Yeager and resolved today in a regular meeting of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, comes in the midst of National Kidney Month and anticipates World Kidney Day on March 13.

Satellite Healthcare was founded as a not-for-profit, community benefit organization in San Jose in 1973, opening its doors to patients in 1974. In 40 years the company has grown to more than 50 dialysis centers in Northern California alone. In 2003 the company created Satellite WellBound, the first healthcare services company to focus on personalized self-car training for home dialysis patients as well as on expert pre-dialysis patient wellness education. On Jan. 1, 2014 Satellite opened Satellite Health Plan, the first Medicare Advantage plan available exclusively to Santa Clara County residents who have end stage renal disease and are Medicare eligible.

Philanthropy is also an integral part of the Satellite culture. The Norman S. Coplon Extramural Grant Program, named for the founder of Satellite Healthcare, is one of the nation's largest private endowments for research into kidney disease and its treatment. In 2008, the company funded The Norman S. Coplon/Satellite Healthcare Professorship in the Department of Nephrology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

"We will continue to elevate the standard of care in Chronic Kidney Disease, and to be the preferred employer, provider and partner in this community," said Mark Burke, President and Chief Executive Officer of Satellite Healthcare. "Many thanks to Supervisor Yeager and the entire Board for recognizing our commitment."
