House Judiciary Committee to Hold Hearing on the Internet Sales Tax Issue(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, March 10 -- The House Judiciary Committee issued the following news release: On Wednesday, March 12th at 10:00 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on "Exploring Alternative Solutions on the Internet Sales Tax Issue" to examine five proposed Internet sales tax solutions. Each witness will present a proposal and advocate for and defend it against criticisms from fellow panelists to identify the merits and shortcomings of each approach. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the statement below on Wednesday's hearing. Chairman Goodlatte: "Congress is no stranger to the remote sales tax collection issue. Over the past 10 years, more than 30 congressional hearings have been held on the topic. While this is not a new conversation, the process that the Committee takes today is unprecedented. Fresh alternatives on the remote sales tax issue are needed, and on Wednesday we will hear about new ideas from a panel of witnesses. I look forward to examining the pros and cons of their proposed solutions." Sutton, Jr., Shareholder, Moffa, Gainor, & Sutton, P.A. Background: On September 18, 2013, the Judiciary Committee published seven guiding principles regarding the internet sales tax issue. The principles were intended to guide discussion on the issue and spark fresh, creative solutions. In the months following, the Committee received a number of ideas in response to the principles.
