Ravello Systems Brings Cloud Capacity to Selenium Browser Automation

PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Ravello Systems, the industry's leading nested virtualization provider, today announced new blueprints for Selenium Grid available in its Software-as-a-Service offering. Ravello powers automation within the enterprise for developers to spin up clones of their existing multi-tier applications in any public cloud. Now with out-of-the-box Selenium blueprints it enables more scalable, customizable and cost-effective Web UI testing in the cloud, with one-click.

Manual testing of Web applications significantly reduces developer productivity and results in partial coverage. Selenium delivers browser automation. The portable software testing framework for Web applications allows users to scale by distributing tests on several machines; however, the long testing phases of using this process can exhaust compute resources.

By introducing blueprints for Selenium Grid, Ravello helps companies reduce the drain on resources, shorten testing time cycles and enlarge coverage to make it easy for users to spin up multiple cloud virtual machines for parallel testing. These virtual machines can be pre-configured with the right set of operating systems and browsers, thus significantly reducing setup time. This option is also more customizable and comes at a lower price than other existing solutions. Ravello also supports Selenium-supported languages: Java, Objective-C, JavaScript with Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby, C#, Clojure, and Perl. Additional benefits include:

  • API control - enabling users to choose to start and stop for on-demand testing cycles;
  • Multi-client support - making it possible to run desktop or client applications in addition to Web-based applications;
  • Enhanced flexibility - modifying Ravello to easily fit user specifics, control the uptime, and providing a pay-as-you-go model; and,
  • Increased network performance - settin the application and the testing target on the same cloud.

"Effective Web UI testing requires a variable amount of compute resources to achieve optimal results," said Chen Nisnkorn, manager of automation and DevOps best practices at Ravello Systems. "Instead of compromising on a solution that is either inflexible or requires long setup times, our customers can now use Selenium in the cloud on top of Ravello for optimum flexibility, scalability and customizability for automated Web testing."
