Software upgrade stalls LPG supply [Ranchi] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RANCHI: Scores of LPG consumers in Ranchi were not supplied cylinders for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.

As part of the Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) reversal, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd had directed LPG distributors to stop any kind of transaction from Friday to Sunday.

Ravi Bhatt, general secretary of LPG Distributors Association of Ranchi, said the transaction was stopped so that the software being used for DBTL could be upgraded.

He said, "The new software was to be installed by Sunday evening and we were supposed to start transactions from Monday. But the software was not changed till Monday afternoon, as a result of which we could not supply cylinders on Monday." He added, "We supply 10,000 gas cylinders in the city everyday. But in the last four days, we have developed a backlog of around 40,000 cylinders." Needless to say, common people were the worst sufferers. With Holi just a week away, lack of supplies of cylinders has become a major problem for many.

Manjusha Devi, a homemaker said, "It has now been three days that we are ordering food from restaurants because cylinders are not available in the market. The problem is that many of our relatives come over for Holi. In such a situation, ordering food from restaurants everyday is not feasible." LPG gas distributors had to face the wrath of costumers. Distributor Jayant Kumar said, "Many people have been queuing at the agency demanding cylinders. When we tried to tell them about the problem, some went away but others kept blaming me for the shortage." Officials of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd claim that the problem has been solved and people will be provided cylinders from Tuesday. D K Sahay, DGM, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and state head, Bihar and Jharkhand, who sits in the state headquarters in Patna said, "The supply will be normal from Tuesday as the software has been uploaded. Now the customers will not have to face trouble in getting LPG cylinders." On the other hand, LPG distributors of the city claim that the work has yet not been done. An LPG distributor said on consitions of anonymity, "The software has still not been uploaded and we are doubtful if it will be uploaded on Tuesday or not. If this continues, consumers will be deprived of cylinders for yet another day." (c) 2014 Bennett, Coleman & Company Limited
