'Sports necessary for healthy life, better society' [Ranchi] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Children these days are happy in their virtual world and most of them are seen hooked to computer games or social networking.

The addiction to computer is so much that children now prefer playing football on screen to going out in the field. But this lifestyle has its own drawbacks and new-age parents fail to realize long-term consequences.

With little or no physical activity, children can suffer from problems like obesity, anaemia, posture defect and vision problems. Besides, a child's muscles do not get toned up and giving him a weak personality.

But if the child is indulged in sports, he will not just be physically fit and smart, but will also develop social relations, feeling of cooperation and acquire leadership skills. The child will also develop better reflexes if he is into sports.

However, the problem with children these days is that they do not find sports to be glamorous and hence stay away from these. Only cricket is popular among youngsters and so it has some takers while other sports are being neglected.

To make students interested in sports, there is need for publicity and initiatives by schools and government institutions. Even he parents should consider the benefits of sports and encourage their children to participate in sports activities.
