Watchdog to fine DDA for house sale malpractice [Mail Today (India)]
(Mail Today (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AFTER imposing hefty penalties on state- owned Coal India and reality giant DLF, the Competition Commission of India ( CCI) is likely to penalise the Delhi Development Authority ( DDA) for misusing its dominant market position in its house sale practices.
The CCI has also ordered an investigation against the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation for unfair practices related to compulsory sale of food to travellers on some trains and ticket booking.
Officials said the CCI's director- general ( investigation) conducted a probe on DDA's Vasant Kunj flats after an aggrieved allottee had filed a complaint last year, alleging violation of the Competition Act by the state- owned real estate administrator.
" The DG had ordered an investigation…. When the Commission received the investigation report, there was evidence for abuse of dominance by the DDA," a senior official told Mail Today.
Meanwhile, the DDA officials are giving evasive replies to any query on this episode.
When this reporter tried to get in- touch with the DDA's Commissioner — Housing, the staff of the office refused to comment on the matter.
