Gambia looks to improve domestic investment [Agence de Presse Africaine]


(Agence de Presse Africaine Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Business entrepreneurs and potential local investors from across The Gambia on Thursday gathered to discuss how to improve domestic investment and also help indigenous industries survive the competitive business environment.The day-long business forum was organised by The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the theme: “Domestic investment as a catalyst for foreign direct investment†.



The forum is part of activities of this year's international trade fair which is underway at the Independence stadium in Bakau.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Trade, Employment and Regional Integration, Abdou Kolley, said domestic investment is crucial to boost the country's economy.


He stated that the government will continue to put in the right policies and programmes that will put The Gambia in the multilateral trading system.

The trade minister noted that already the government's policies in place provide the conducive environment for the private sector development through domestic investment.

The Gambia has an investment policy, which is premised on liberal, free market economic environment together with appropriate political and social policy and programme framework.

Kolley called on the private sector to explore various avenues to invest in the domestic economy as the government has already created the right environment.
