Alta-New-Health-Boss

(Canadian Press Broadcast Wire (Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) EDMONTON - The woman who led Newfoundland's largest health authority as it attempted to recover from a major breast-cancer testing scandal has been named the head of Alberta's health superboard.

Vickie Kaminski has been appointed the president and chief executive of Alberta Health Services.

Kaminski moves to Alberta from Newfoundland where she headed up the Eastern Regional Health Authority, an organization beset by scandal over hundreds of botched breast cancer tests between 1997 and 2005.

Kaminski took over that job in 2009, apologized for the devastating toll the errors took on patients and oversaw a $17.5-million settlement of a class-action lawsuit.

Mistaken results in 386 cases led to a public inquiry that identified major problems throughout the province's testing system.

A nurse by trade, Kaminski will make $540,000 plus benefits as Alberta Health Services' boss.
