Christie, Parker & Hale Client Vederi Wins Appeal Against Google

GLENDALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Christie, Parker & Hale, LLP (cph.com), a leading Southern California intellectual property law firm, today announced that its client, Vederi, LLC, won an appeal against Google (News - Alert), Inc. in a patent infringement case involving Google's Street View service. Because the district court erred in its claim construction, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit vacated a summary judgment of non-infringement and remanded the case to the district court for further proceedings. "We are pleased that the Federal Circuit agreed with us that Vederi's patent rights are broader than what Google advocated to the district court and the district court adopted," said David A. Dillard, lead attorney for the CPH litigation team.

The original lawsuit filed by Vederi alleges that Google's Street View infringes four of Vederi's patents issued between 2007 and 2009. These patents relate to methods for creating synthesized images of a geograpic area through which a user may then visually navigate via a computer. Enrico Di Bernardo and Luis Goncalves, the founders of Vederi, LLC, met at Caltech while pursuing doctoral degrees. Their StreetBrowser system, that let Internet visitors look at panoramas of streets and visually navigate around a neighborhood, was hosted on the website of the City of Pasadena in the early 2000s.

The Christie, Parker & Hale team has served as intellectual property legal counsel to Vederi since 2000.
