CMU Appoints New Global Campus VP


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., March 17 -- Central Michigan University issued the following news release: Central Michigan University Executive Vice President/Provost Michael Gealt announces the appointment of Peter Ross as the university's next vice president of Global Campus.



Since 2007 Ross has served as associate vice president of academic programs for Global Campus. He joined CMU in 1991 serving as a faculty member in the communication and dramatic arts department, and became director of the Master of Science Administration program in 2005.

"Pete Ross has the proven vision to set a definitive course through the swiftly evolving marketplace," Gealt said. With a collaborative leadership style, he'll support the entire CMU community in delivering world-caliber education that maximizes technology to help meet student demands." Ross earned his doctoral and master's degrees in speech communication from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, and his bachelor's degree in communication studies from Polytechnic of Wales in the United Kingdom.


"CMU is committed to making access to quality higher education available to all students - adult, military, civilian and traditional college students," Ross said. "I'm honored to have been selected for the position. Much credit can be given to the CMU faculty for our ongoing success. Together, we will advance CMU's legacy in distance learning and be a leader in online education." Ross will replace Merodie Hancock, who assumed the presidency of Empire State College in New York. Ray Christie, vice provost of academic administration, has been serving in the interim.

Ross' appointment is effective March 31 with an annual salary of $185,000. The search committee was chaired by Pam Gates, dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

The vice president of Global Campus is responsible for providing strategic leadership by working with the president, executive vice president/provost, and other executive and management personnel to establish and implement the vision and long-range goals, strategies, objectives and plans for CMU's off-campus and online programs.

CMU has been a pioneer in distance learning since 1971, with 50 locations in North America and online. U.S. News and World Report has ranked CMU's online undergraduate programs No. 1 in the country.
