'Court appearance' email is phishing scam [Gazette, The (CO)]

(Gazette, The (CO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Several Colorado Springs residents have received phishing emails that appear to be sent from the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Court, city officials said in a release Tuesday.

The emails subject line says "Notification of Appearance in Court," but aren't from the Municipal court, and likely contain malware city officials said.

Malware is malicious, destructive computer code that is used to gain access to computer systems and obtain sensitive information.

Official notifications to appear in court are not sent by email and city officials remind residents that any correspondence with the Colorado Springs Municipal court will come from a @springs.gov email address, city officials said.
