INTERPHEX 2014, Sponsored by PDA, Comes to a Close in New York City with Industry Accolades

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

The 2014 edition of the International Pharmaceutical Expo (INTERPHEX), the leading annual trade event dedicated to the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry concluded on Thursday, March 20. The event, sponsored by the PDA (Parenteral Drug Association), was held March 18-20 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, NY.

The event kicked off on Tuesday with a grand opening ceremony, sponsored by Pump Solutions Group, complete with live music and a celebratory toast from industry leaders. This year, more than 12,000 attendees had access to over 650 exhibitors - getting a first hand look at the latest technology, equipment and services.

Branden Morris, Director of Marketing at Masy Systems, Inc. said that this is the 11th year they have been exhibiting at INTERPHEX. "It's important for us to attend because this is the number one event of the year. It gives us a great chance to meet and greet with existing customers as well as meet new ones," he said.

Featured Events

New to the show were a variety of new roundtable discussions and speaker presentations on the INTERPHEX Connects Innovation Stages. All events were complimentary and open to all attendees - making them one of the most popular aspects of the show. Topics covered continuous manufacturing for solid dose drugs, high potency manufacturing, cleaning validation, and more.

PDA produced the first ever PDA Education Program @INTERPHEX featuring fresh ideas and inspiring sessions on the current industry trends and technologies. Presentations throughout the three days encompassed everything from parenteral packaging to biopharmaceutical and sterile manufacturing.

On Tuesday, attendees had access to the CRB Tech Tank Series, which featured interactive presentations including: Key to a Successful Future Flexible Facility, OSD Process Equipment, and Think Outside te Vessel - Improve Your Operations.

Wednesday, IPS-Integrated Project Services led the Technologies Floor Tours. Attendees were taken around to companies on the show floor where they gained insight into the latest equipment, innovation, and manufacturing technologies offered by leading vendors and internationally recognized experts.

The St. Patrick's Day+ 2 Industry Celebration on Wednesday night, sponsored by Thermo Scientific was an overwhelming success. The event featured a great live band, a golf simulator contest, photo booth, as well as cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

Other events during the show included specialty forums, a case study series, workshops, and a student and young professionals program.

INTERPHEX Gives Back

This year, INTERPHEX is also a contributor to the Health Science Industry Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to qualified graduate and undergraduate students pursuing health science related degrees at accredited colleges and universities in the U.S.

"While we are all focused on our own day jobs, we need to find the time to develop the talent in the industry," said Robert Lechich, Director of Technical Operations for Pfizer Global Supply and part of the Scholarship Fund. "Our goal is to identify individuals that are worthy and train them to move into the industry - this is our opportunity to build the future."

On the Show Floor

The response from exhibitors was very positive this year. Like many others, Laura Frain, Vice President of Sales at Fette Compacting, said that overall they have had a great experience at the show.

"We've had a good showing of quality clients," Frain said. "All the people we wanted to see were here."

Steve Sirabian, Executive Vice President of the E/E Division at Glatt said that people were spending extra time at their booth this year, having more in-depth and project-oriented discussions.

In addition, the annual evening event at the Hard Rock Cafe, sponsored by Excellence United - a strategic alliance of independent companies in the field of special machine engineering for the pharmaceutical production - had more than 400 attendees. It was an exceptional turnout they said.

INTERPHEX was also a hub for International attendees, like Ramesh Shah of KNS Media out of India.

"This is a good market for Indian companies because they are now exporting to the U.S.," Shah said. "We definitely see the value in bringing them to INTERPHEX." Shah also plans to expand India's presence at next year's show by having more companies represented.

Next Year

The excitement for next year is already building with exhibitors renewing more space for 2015 than at the end of last year's event. INTERPHEX 2015 will be held April 21-23 in New York City.
