BRIEF: WSSU chancellor to step down [News & Record, Greensboro, N.C. :: ]

(News & Record (Greensboro, NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 21--WINSTON-SALEM -- The chancellor of Winston-Salem State University will step down at the end of the year.

The university said Donald J. Reaves told faculty and students today that he would resign Dec. 31 and join the political science faculty. Reaves has been chancellor since 2007.

In a statement put out by the university, Reaves said he started talking in late 2012 with UNC President Tom Ross about leaving the job.

"At the end of December I will be in the middle of the eighth year of my five-year commitment," Reaves joked. "Seriously though, I am truly thankful to have had the opportunity to serve the university and the community." Reaves came to Winston-Salem State from the University of Chicago, where he was chief financial officer. He replaced Harold Martin, now the chancellor of N.C. A&T.
