89% Saudi firms without CSR sections [Saudi Gazette, The]

(Saudi Gazette, The Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RIYADH - Eighty-nine percent of Saudi companies do not have corporate social responsibility (CSR) sections while the number of such sections within global companies is on the increase, according to a recent study conducted by a researcher at King Saud University. In his study, CSR expert Al-Ramdhi Bin Qaed Al-Eneizi concluded that the concept of corporate social responsibility is still not clear for the sample of 211 companies in three regions (Eastern Province, Central Region and Western Region). Around 25 percent of these companies assign CSR tasks to public relations departments while 18 percent assign them to the board of directors. A total of 211 managers, including 11 chairmen, 13 deputy chairmen, and 26 CEOs, two supervisors, a deputy manager, 47 heads of departments and 12 public relations managers, were polled for the study.
