ProCare Appoints New Clinical Director [Executive Appointments Monitor Worldwide]

(Executive Appointments Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) New Zealand's largest PHO, ProCare, announced today the appointment of Dr Allan Moffitt as its new Clinical Director. Dr Moffitt will lead the organisation's Clinical Directorate from 1 July.


ProCare CEO Steve Boomert says, "I'm delighted to have Dr Moffitt join ProCare at a time when we have a clear strategy to strengthen our clinical leadership and support. Dr Moffitt will be a dedicated member of ProCare's Executive Lead Team, where he will be able to strongly represent clinicians' concerns. His excellent collaboration skills means that he can maximise the value of primary care within the wider health sector through his work with stakeholders." ProCare Health Limited Board Chairman Dr Peter Didsbury says, "Dr Moffitt has a long history of strong clinical leadership and we look forward to him applying his experience to supporting our network members. As well as participating in a range of committees and working groups advocating for and advising on real issues affecting general practice, he has kept active in front-line practice working part-time as a GP." Dr Moffitt joins ProCare following roles as Clinical Director at EastHealth Trust PHO and Alliance Health Plus PHO. Prior to that he was the acting Medical Director for Midlands Health Network and Director Primary Care for Counties Manukau DHB.

Dr Moffitt says, "I am really looking forward to taking up the challenge of working for ProCare – I'm passionate about making a difference and believe there is much greater scope for doing so working for the largest PHO in the country. I'm keen to focus on adding value to the health system and to general practice." Dr Moffitt starts as the new Clinical Director at ProCare in July as 0.6 FTE. He will lead the organisation's Clinical Directorate made up of a multidisciplinary team of practising clinicians who work part-time at ProCare supporting its network of practices to provide high quality and sustainable primary health care to more than 800,000 New Zealanders. Dr Moffitt will also continue practising one day a week as a part-time GP.

Dr Allan Moffitt – Biography Dr Allan Moffitt studied at the University of Auckland's, School of Medicine graduating in 1981 with a B.H.B. and then going on to gain a M.B. Ch.B (1984), a Diploma in Obstetrics and then his MRNZCGP.

Dr Moffitt has held positions in a range of health care organisations, including the role of Director of Primary Care at Counties Manukau DHB. In recent years he has undertaken clinical consulting, acted as the Medical Director for Midlands Health Network, was Deputy Chair and Clinical Lead for GAIHN, and over the past two years as the Clinical Director for PHOs, EastHealth Trust and Alliance Health Plus.

Dr Moffitt owned his own practice in Howick for 18 years and has been working in Otara as a part-time GP for nearly nine years. Prior to this he undertook locum work across Auckland, mostly in the Glen Innes and the South Auckland area. Most of his training was at Middlemore Hospital.

Dr Moffitt was a Clinical Teacher for the University of Auckland's Department of General Practice and was awarded a distinguished service medal from the Royal NZ College of GPs for his work in assisting at Part One RNZCGP examinations and various Working Parties on Reorganisation of the General Practice Training Programme.

He has worked on and chaired a range of committees and working groups including the joint committee of South Auckland Primary Care Organisations and South Auckland Health which looked at integration issues. More recently he chaired two Service Level Alliance Teams (for Midlands Health) on Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease leading service reconfiguration. Dr Moffitt has also participated in several Ministerial working groups for the Ministry of Health including the Primary Care Strategy, and Community Services Card Review groups. He was a member of the Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Advisory Committee for PHARMAC for several years. As Chair of East Health Services Ltd he was instrumental in establishing IPAC (the precursor to GPNZ) and served as inaugural deputy chair before taking up his Counties Manukau DHB role.

Dr Moffitt has had several articles published in peer review journals, including the International Journal for Equity in Health and the New Zealand Medical Journal.

He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, the New Zealand Medical Association, the Australasian College of Health Service – Executives, and the New Zealand Institute of Health Management.

Dr Moffitt holds the honour of O.StJ., Officer of the Order of St. John.

During his spare time he enjoys gardening, reading, music and spending time with his wife Anne and their three children.
