New Literature Describes Benefits of Canted Coil Springs for High Current Power Transmission & Distribution

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

A new technical guide published by Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. provides high current transmission and distribution equipment designers with a detailed look at how springs can solve tough connecting and conducting challenges.

The eight-page guide, titled "Connecting and Conducting Solutions for High Current Power Transmission & Distribution," describes the use of the company's compact, precision-engineered Bal Seal Canted Coil Spring® as an electrical contact element for switchgears, circuit breakers, current transformers, cable accessories and other power management equipment. The guide presents data on the spring's current-carrying capacity (in amps), as well as mechanical and electrical properties such as thermal conductivity (in W/m-K°), resistivity (in µO-cm) and hardness (HV). A full-page illustration depicts the springs at their approximate size.

The Bal Seal Canted Coil Spring®, a proven solution already at work in critical power transmission and distribution applications worldwide, offers OEMs the ability to reduce costs, elimiate maintenance issues, and improve equipment performance. Available in a broad range of coil heights, wire materials and plating types, the spring maintains a nearly constant force over a broad compression range, compensating for angular misalignment, surface irregularities and even temperature changes without significant deviation from its initial force. Each coil works independently, maintaining contact with the mating surface and ensuring maximum conductivity. The versatile component's locking, latching and holding properties also allow designers to meet very specific insertion and breakaway force requirements.
