Vehicle dealers can now issue smart RCs [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Worried over standing in long queues for getting registration certificates (RCs) in smart card format from Regional Transport Office (RTO)? Worry not, for the transport department has made the process easy and allowed vehicle dealers to issue RCs as smart cards. RCs in smart card format will be printed with the authorised signatures of the same dealer agencies.

The move will make the entire process easier in the sense the vehicle owners will have to complete little formalities, and dealers will do the work for them. The owners, who want to get their vehicles register in the RTO, come three to four times to RTO. Formalities like preparing backup files by uploading the date in national software and depositing fees take long, making the process tardy.

The transport officials, equivalent to the rank of divisional transport officer (DTO), have so far been issuing RCs in smart card format with their digital signatures, but now the department has ordered to issue the smart card RCs with the signatures of the authorised persons of the respective dealers also.

The dealers are asked to furnish the digital signatures of their authorised representative to the RTO. The digital signatures of the authorised persons of the dealers will be uploaded on the software and smart card RCs will be printed with the same signatures.

In fact, the RTOs will continue to issue the RCs the way it has been.

From now onwards, the dealers will get all the work done through RTO that a vehicle owner had been doing, saving the hassles and precious time of the vehicle owners.

Notably, the dealers were already issuing the RCs in paper format with the signatures of their authorised persons before the smart card scheme. But they had stopped to issue paper RCs after the initiation of the smart card scheme.

How the new process will work Details of registration of vehicles will be uploaded on the RTO software by dealers. The dealers will also provide the details in CD or pen drive to RTO on a daily basis.

The details will be furnished to the firm, which produces RCs in smart card format.

After printing of the smart card RCs by the firm, RTO office will distributes these printed RCs to dealers.
