HE Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber Leads Qatar Delegation to ITU s 6th WTDC in Dubai [Qatar News Agency]

(Qatar News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Doha, March 30 (QNA) -HE Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, is leading a Qatari delegation participating in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)'s 6th World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) that opened in Dubai, UAE, on March 30 and will be in session until April 10. The theme of WTDC-14 is "Broadband for Sustainable Development" with delegates from 150 countries, a press release said here on Sunday.

The objective of WTDC-14 is to establish work programs and guidelines for defining telecommunication development questions and priorities and to provide direction and guidance for the work program of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) over the next four-year period.

Dr. Al-Jaber delivered remarks on Qatar's progress in ICT development as part of the opening High Level Segment, where all heads of delegations shared their work, including policy developments, initiatives and future objectives.

"In Qatar, we know that high-speed, high-quality, affordable broadband is the foundation of an innovative ICT sector that will enrich the quality of life for individuals and propel our nation forward. Broadband is one tool to make the change at the level of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030: Economic, human, social and environmental development, and in line with Qatar's pursuit of economy diversification away from the energy sector on the course of creating the knowledge-based economy," H. E. Minister Al-Jaber said. "Nearly ten years ago," she continued, "Qatar's leadership made the decision to invest heavily in building a world-class infrastructure with the capacity and speeds to set the country apart in the region. With this in mind, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology launched Qatar's National Broadband Plan in collaboration from public and private stakeholders – an ambitious strategy aimed at upgrading the broadband market in the State of Qatar."
