Primus Guma Guma Superstar season 4 reaches out to Genocide survivors [New Times, The (Rwanda)]
(New Times, The (Rwanda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) As part of their corporate social responsibility drive, Bralirwa under the Primus Guma Guma music competition has joined Rwandans to mark the 20th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
Being the month of April, Primus Guma Guma has halted its road shows to commiserate with the entire Rwanda in a four-week charity drive.
In an event held at the sector offices in Gahanga, Kicukiro District, yesterday, Primus Guma Guma paid one year medical insurance for 166 needy Genocide survivors.
Platini from the Dream Boys represented all the contestants and gave a brief speech in which he said that: "We are here to remember the many lives that were lost in the Genocide and above all soothe the pain of survivors."
Esperance Musabemariya, 58, one of the beneficiaries said she was honoured and touched by the noble gesture extended to her through the medical insurance cover from Bralirwa. Musabemariya is a genocide survivor who lost most of her family members in the 1994 Genocide.
Speaking at the event, Georgetta Rutayisire, the vice mayor of Kicukiro, applauded Bralirwa for the helping hand extended toward needy communities.
Rutayisire also received a cheque worth Rwf500,000 on behalf of Kicukiro District from the Bralirwa team to fund the commemoration activities in the district.
Freddy Nyangezi, the corporate affairs manager for Bralirwa said the charity drive is aimed at educating and instilling the heart to give amongst the contestants on their rise to stardom.
The Gahanga event marked the first of the four corporate social responsibility events to be held this month.
Martine Gatabazi, the marketing manager of Bralirwa said the next event will be held at the memorial site in Nyanza, then Nyamirambo where Primus Guma Guma will light ten houses of Genocide survivors and the last will be Umuganda (community work) in Bumbogo at the end of the month.
