In brief In brief [Winnipeg Free Press (Canada)](Winnipeg Free Press (Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 2,400 frozen waterlines THE number of properties with frozen waterlines topped 2,400 over the weekend, and the number of those on the waiting list for thawing services continues to climb. The City of Winnipeg's Monday update found there are now 2,406 properties that have reported frozen waterlines, an increase of 47 from Friday. City hall was able to restore full water service to 38 properties over the weekend, but that left the number of properties on the waiting list for thawing at 1,372 -- an increase of nine since Friday. The city provided temporary hose connections to 27 properties over the weekend. With the temporary hookups and those properties already thawed, the number of properties -- 564 -- without water service of any kind continues to decrease. A city spokeswoman reported there are 177 properties with waterlines that cannot be thawed using traditional methods. The waterlines to those properties will be dug up and exposed, allowing city crews to install ground straps that will allow the lines to be thawed using the electric-current DBH machines. Axworthy's next job RETIRING University of Winnipeg president Lloyd Axworthy is joining the board of directors of CUSO International, one of North America's foremost international volunteer organizations. Axworthy, a former foreign affairs minister, retires as president of the U of W June 30. He is currently on a mission to Ukraine monitoring election preparations.
