BRIEF: Scrambling to deal with effects of Heartbleed [The Oregonian, Portland, Ore. :: ]

(Oregonian (Portland, OR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 10--Heartbleed, the digital vulnerability that may imperil hundreds of millions of internet users, is causing information technology departments and companies to scramble to install a fix.

Read: "What you need to know about Heartbleed" Portland's Tripwire rushed out an announcement Thursday that it has included Heartbleed security checks in its product line, including its free cloud-based service, SecureScan.

Umpqua Bank posted a note on its site Wednesday saying "We wanted to let you know that Umpqua Bank's Online and Mobile Banking websites and mobile services have NOT been affected by the Heartbleed bug." A fix is available for the flaw, so engineers and technicians are hurrying to ensure they have installed the most secure version of the technology. The vulnerability occurs between machines, not at the level of the desktop or mobile device.
