Glo pledges support to NSC [Sun, The (Nigeria)]

(Sun, The (Nigeria) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sports development in Nigeria got a major boost Thursday when leading communications outfit, Globacom visited new sports minister Tamuno Danagogo in his office in Abuja and declared their commitment to continue their sponsorship of sports.

The company's Group Chief Operating Officer Mohammed Jameel  who led the delegation, congratulated Dr. Danagogo on his recent appointment, saying that the company was optimistic that the Minister would bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new national assignment and take Nigerian Sports to unprecedented heights during his tenure.

Jameel stated that Globacom had been in the forefront of sport sponsorship in Nigeria since it commenced operations in 2003, adding that the company stood by the nation's football through thick and thin because it believed that it was the most patriotic thing to do for Nigerian football to grow to its fullest potentials.

"Over the past couple of years, we have committed enormous resources to support the Nigerian national teams, the Nigerian Premier League and other football initiatives. We have supported football massively over the years because we see it as a unique national unifier," Jameel added.

In his response, Dr. Danagogo commended Globacom for supporting sports, particularly football in Nigeria for over a decade, positing that the telecoms company remains the pacesetter in sports sponsorship in Nigeria and Africa.

According to him: "Globacom is the highest supporter of football in Nigeria and we in the Federal Ministry of Sports want to say Thank You to Dr Mike Adenuga and the Globacom team for the massive support Nigerian sports has benefitted from you over the years".

The Minister stated that he will lead a team of Sports Ministry Directors in a few weeks to say "Thank You to Dr Mike Adenuga Jr. to express our appreciation and to encourage him to do more.

Dr. Danagogo called on other multinationals in the country to emulate the giant strides of Globacom in Nigerian sports, adding that "Nigerian sports would have become advanced if others also give our sport the kind of massive support Globacom has given us".
