GAIAE's website attracted around 1.9 mn visitors from 220 countries in 2013 [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]


(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Abu Dhabi, 11th Apr. 2014 (WAM) - The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE) s website attracted around 1.9 million visitors from 220 countries in 2013, according to official statistics.



The GAIAE s IT Department projected that this number is likely to rise to more than 2 million visitors this year.

Around 4.4 million visitors browsed the website and other e-services, while Friday sermon page brought visitors from 113 countries, the figures showed.


Last year GAIAE's website received more than 51 suggestions forwarded to the IT Department for further study, in a bid to benefit from them to upgrade the website services for the best interest of public and visitors.

In a statement, GAIAE s Director General Mohammed Mattar al Kaabi, said, the increasing number of visits to the website came as a result of the implementation of GAIAE s strategic plan approved by the Cabinet and regular update of content and design.

Additionally, GAIAE introduced new e-services aimed at meeting the needs of visitors in accordance with its strategic plan as well as other e-services, which have greatly helped visitors or customers have an easy access to information he added.

According to statistics the UAE Official Fatwa Centre received, since its inception till 2013, a total of about 2 million fatwas.

The Centre received 1,556,811 fatwas through phone, 244,340 through text messages and 35,615 through e-mail.

On a relate note, the social networking sites: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, attracted more than 55,800 users New e-services are on the pipeline and they will be available at the website and GAIAE s application on smart phones and tablets. This will help increase the number of visitors to the website in future.

The website was awarded the golden prize in the category of Arab websites 2013 by the Pan Arab Web Award Academy (PAWAA).

The website provides interactive services including news, morning and evening invocations, prayer timings, Friday sermon, interactive map to find nearby mosques and Quran memorization centres e-fatwa services, among others. Visitors can also browse through already answered fatwas available at Fatwa archives which keep more than 4040 fatwas.
